How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

During the production of the project, we had to take into consideration the point of ancillary tasks and why they are crucial and required in the media. The magazine advert is used to advertise to the audience that an artist has released a new album, magazine advert is also used to aware the audience about the music artist. This will help increase the sales of the album and boost artist fans.
Our ancillary task effectively combines with our main product by using constant genre characteristics, as we discovered that Jack Penate was an indie, rock type artist and therefore, we used an image of the artist (Jamie Burton) smashing a guitar against the piano, and this gave an indie/rock image towards the viewer. In the music video we used Khaki green shirt with buttoned all the way to the top because Jack Penate is dressed up similarly in his music video. The grey bobble hat worn by the artist and acoustic guitar used by the artist in the music video and also in the album cover image added future Indie/Rock vibe. While our ancillary research, I found out how Lady Gaga’s magazine advert had two different images of her on magazine advert. These two different images reflected on how Lady Gaga’s personality is, there is a wild odd look of Lady Gaga and there is also a graceful, elegant look.

We used this concept in our Digi-Pack by dressing the artist on the front cover in an indie/rock look and on the back cover, the artist is dressed up formally. This explains that there is more than one image of the artist, there is an indie/rock look of the artist and there is also a formal, mature look of the artist. The front cover of the album and the music video shows the artist (Jamie Burton) in a laid back, authentic and has do-it-yourself attitude, this kind of look of the artists is usually adored by late teens and early 20’s.
By dressing the artist with Khaki shirt and bobble hat gives young indie look, as this is a stereotypical towards the artist. The images used on the album cover and magazine advert are taken while filming which makes the music video and ancillary more consistent. The location we used to film the artist performance was a small room to give it a casual, laid back, relaxing look. We also choose this location and dressing code so the audience can recognise from the magazine advert and relate it to indie/rock genre; this should also attract the audience and increase the sales of the album copies.
The font we decided to use on the album cover and magazine advert is called “Baskerville old face,” we didn’t use range of colours but yet made the text look eye catching, stylish and classy. We chose this font because “Baskerville old face” font goes well with the product, ancillary and genre of music and Jack Penate also uses this font on his official website.

Magazine advert analysis

Bellow is a image of our magazine advert. The image shows a picture of the artist smashing a guitar against a piano. We took pictures whilst filming in order to create this. From looking at other magazine adverts we noticed the different logo's involved and so we made ours as realistic as possible. However, the ad had to be relevent to the artist. Therefore, it had to have a indie/rock image towards the viewer so they knew what sort of music the artist produced. Costume and location was also important. We used the green shirt and the bobble hat to get a young indie look as this was stereotypical towards the artist. Included on the ad is when it is going to be released, reviews from other companies, the artists website details and finally the correct font to make it again realistic and apropiate for the genre of artist.
