Magazine advert analysis

Bellow is a image of our magazine advert. The image shows a picture of the artist smashing a guitar against a piano. We took pictures whilst filming in order to create this. From looking at other magazine adverts we noticed the different logo's involved and so we made ours as realistic as possible. However, the ad had to be relevent to the artist. Therefore, it had to have a indie/rock image towards the viewer so they knew what sort of music the artist produced. Costume and location was also important. We used the green shirt and the bobble hat to get a young indie look as this was stereotypical towards the artist. Included on the ad is when it is going to be released, reviews from other companies, the artists website details and finally the correct font to make it again realistic and apropiate for the genre of artist.

Location We Filmed In

Costume and Props analysis

In order to create a good music video as a group we needed to makesure the apperance of the artist was realistic. Therefore, bellow are some props and costumes that we used in the Video. From our reasearch into the artist we found that he was a indie, rock type artist anbd therefore, a kahki green shirt seemed to be suitable. In the video it was buttoned all the way to the top because in Jack Penate's music video this was his apperance. The grey bobble hat then just added a further indie/rock vibe to the performer. An acoustic guitar was also used in the video this also backs the apperance of the artist to make it as realistic as possible. Bellow is some poictures to show the costumes and props.

Target Audience

Target audience is very important for artists in considering who they want their music video to be watched by and who it targets. Our video is the genre of Indie rock and our target audience is for people in their late teens and early 20's. Jack Penate is the artist and is a young man in his 20ís and was also known to be a DJ when he was a teenager. Therefore due to this, we believe that the target audience will be late teens and early 20ís. So to attract this age group our video had to have some young influential images to do with the song and it also had to have some performance involved. We believed this idea would be unique and would attract our target audience in the best possible way.

The gender split for our music video is about 60%-40% boys to girls, the reason being is that because an indie rock group may traditionally attract more boys than girl.. The age range we believe could be between 15-22 yrs old. The reason being is because this type of music presents well known stereotypes of late teens and early 20 year olds.

Finally the area in which people live in may be a factor on who likes it. I believe that this sort of genre would come across to people living on the suburbs of cities and to some people in the inner city areas.

This then links to the demographics of the targeted audience. Demographics is most commonly described as, the most recent statistical characteristics of a population. Our demographic audience applies to people having middle class jobs such as, teachers and graphic designers. Furthermore, it also applies to the demographic group of low middle class people and people at the lowest end of pay. These include students and mainly young people involved in this category. Furthermore, the formation of demographics also follows on to psychographics, these are people who are defined by the way there personality is. Marlowís Hierarchy is the results into how the segmentation of groups is split. It isnít just split into personality types Marlow's hierarchy also attempted to account for people's needs - ie how a media product may serve a person's self esteem needs, their safety needs and the physiological needs of the viewers. The psychographic viewers for our target audience would be people who are, we believe, 'explorers' because the upbeat tempo of the song may be described as a way of discovering. It may also cover the 'struggler type' because of the age range we believe our target audience fits. These people make ìfew plans for tomorrowî. These two categories are the psychographic audience categories that we as a group have tried to attract. The reason being is because our song is upbeat and we believe this is who it would come across to the most.

Risk Assesment

In order to create a good music video, certain precautions must be considered to keep the environment safe. In our music video we have shot in various locations and a risk assessment is appropriate towards it. Shooting in London is the main risk, as there is a reasonably high crime rate. Therefore, we had to be careful on the journey and in London itself.
1) Getting on and off the train was important as sometimes it can become a risk. Especially when there is a gap between the platform and the train.
2) Making sure equipment is also checked on the journey in case it becomes risk to us and others around us. Also without equipment in top form we can’t make a good music video.
These two risks are very small but small risks can become exploited and therefore, become disastress. These were main risks to look out for on the journey. However, bellow is risks we had to keep in mind for when we were in London.
1) As London is a very big and busy place we had to make sure we were aware of what was around us. For example roads and people, where the location was compared to what risks we may face. Filming next to a road could become dangerous as it may distract drivers and people around us might not want to be filmed and therefore, they may get angry so we might have become at risk.
2) Filming in a very busy train station could cause multiple risks. Due to the amount of trains around. Getting to close to the tracks may also be a risk as we could fall and injure ourselves.
3) Making sure again, that equipment was in good shape and that we always had an eye on it, because it may have been noticed by others and could be stolen or arguments may come into hand.
4) Using the equipment properly is also important because it may be a risk to us if we use it wrong. An injury may occur.
5) We also covered all areas of safety by having our mobile phones in case there was a problem. We knew the important emergency numbers we may have needed to use and most importantly our parents knew where and what we were doing.
6) Time awareness is also important because losing track of time may enable us to a risk in London to some members of the public.
These are the risks we had to keep in consideration when we were in London. Keeping to these are very important. Even those some of these are very minor again small risks can become big ones if they are not watched properly.
Our final filming location was in school. School is a lot safer than London and risk assessments were a lot easier to make.
1) Making sure our location was out the way of any other pupils and classrooms that may have risk such as the D.T rooms.
2) Making sure the area that we were filming in was safe to the environment. For example any plug sockets or equipment left out was out the way because they may cause risks to us producing the video.

Each of these assessments are all important risks to keep in consideration when we are filming to make sure that we are safe and to make sure the equipment is safe.

Letter of permission for filming in different locations

A2 Media Studies

Year 13 boys from The Windsor Boys’ school are currently filming a music video for their A2 media studies course. This letter requests permission from passengers to film them at Windsor and slough train stations.

The music Video uses the title “torn on the platform” by Jack Penate. The film once edited, will only be shown to the media teachers at the school and to the OCR exam board.

If you could spare a short amount of time so that we may film a small clip of you, we would be very Grateful.
